NAFDAC arrests Chinese for selling unapproved water

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has arrested the Managing Director and four Nigerian employees of Chung Full Nigeria Ltd for the sale of unapproved table water.
NAFDAC’s spokesperson, Anslem Okonkwor, said in a statement on Wednesday, that the agency made the arrest because of the company’s “gross abuse and non-observance of manufacturing practice in production and sale of its Osaki Range of table water.”

NAFDAC’s Director of Enforcement, Mr. Garba MacDonald, told journalists after the arrest that the company had been sealed and its operations put on hold.
He said, “This action has become necessary because the company is producing in a residential apartment, under an unhygienic environment and without a valid registration certificate which are clear violations of NAFDAC regulations.
“The staff members too have been unruly and violent. They prevented the agency’s officials from ascertaining the level of compliance with the agency’s regulations and investigating various complaints by consumers against the company and its products.”
