Fake police chief arrested with charms

Nemesis yesterday caught up with a fake Deputy Commissioner of Police, T. A. Banjo, as he was arrested in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Banjo was arrested at the Governor's Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, while attempting to gain entry to the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mr. Taiwo Adeoluwa.

Two other persons, who accompanied the fake police officer, were also apprehended by security operatives attached to the Governor's Office.

The Nigerian Compass gathered that items allegedly recovered from the suspects included a police officer identity card bearing the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police, National Identity card, mobile phones and charms.

When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident, describing it as "terrible."

Adejobi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), said the suspects were being detained at the police command headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

He added that the suspects would be dealt with accordingly upon completion of investigation.

"This is a clear case of impersonation. He has ID card of the rank of deputy commissioner. It is impersonation, we are taking over the case. He would have used it to perpetrate some evil," he said.
